Meath County Council (Ireland) hosted a light event, Illuminating Meath, as part of the 2018 EU-China Tourism Year to coincide with the celebration of the Lantern Festival in China. was illuminated and attendees were invited to participate in traditional Chinese activities.

The event was attended by His Excellency, Dr. Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland. The Ambassador was accompanied by Chinese Embassy representative Mme Yang Hua, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission of the Chinese Embassy. Local representatives and tourism providers were also in attendance.

As part of the event, Buvinda House and the Council’s bespoke wooden lantern, were illuminated in red for the special occasion. Meath’s Lung Ying Academy performed a traditional lion dance to open the event and locally produced Boyne Valley food was sampled, along with traditional Chinese cuisine.

The Make It Meath promotional video and marketing brochure, translated into Mandarin for the Chinese market, was presented to his Excellency, Dr. Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland.

This event is further building on our Chinese relations via an enriching cultural moment and will build our connection as a tourist destination in China.
