In honour of the EU-China Tourism Year the City of Helsinki will illuminate one of its most important architectural landmarks, Finlandia Hall, in red.
Lighting the Finlandia Hall is a great culmination for the Chinese festive season starting with the Chinese New Year celebration organised jointly by the sister cities Helsinki and Beijing on February 15. The Chinese New Year, celebrated in Helsinki since 2007, combines lively market, colourful lanterns, dancing dragons and lions, a vast selection of New Year delights and spectacular fireworks in the centre of Helsinki.
Finlandia Hall is a masterpiece by the renowned Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto (1898-1976). This congress and event venue is a unique combination of an all-embracing aesthetic vision, distinctive atmosphere and functionality. The location in a park by the Töölönlahti bay in the centre of Helsinki provides excellent surroundings for the festive illumination during the EU-China Bridge of Light -event.
